AGN President Emeka Rollas Arrested Amidst Leadership Dispute in Abia State

The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Chief Emeka Rollas, was arrested and detained by police in Umuahia, Abia State, following allegations of imposing unelected leadership on the guild’s state chapter.

The controversy began after David Onyebuchi Amalaha was elected as the AGN Abia State Chairman on May 20, 2023.

Despite his election, the National AGN leadership reportedly appointed multiple interim chairmen, leading to internal conflicts and legal actions initiated by Amalaha to uphold his mandate.

Tensions escalated on Thursday when Chief Rollas convened a meeting in Umuahia without including key stakeholders or Amalaha.

Aggrieved members, including Chika Okezie, Egwuatu Daniel, and Nathaniel Nwoko, disrupted the gathering, accusing Rollas of causing division within the guild. Police intervention was required to prevent the situation from becoming violent.

SP Iheanetu Bruno Chukwudera, the Police Public Relations Officer of Zone 9 Command Umuahia, clarified that while there was chaos caused by some aggrieved members, no arrests were made.

He stated, “The key actors in the chaos were invited by the AIG and made to write statements based on what happened during the meeting.”
